As we read the Bible, we are struck by the complete awesomeness of Jesus: His love, His compassion for the lost, and His utter humility.He made the blind to see, He cast out demons, and He hated worthless religion. He healed the sick, He walked on water, and He forgave an adulterous woman. We are taken back by the love and concern He has for people.

But then there is that other side, where His words and actions are authoritative and sometimes startling. He took a whip and cleared out the temple, He told religious people they were going to hell, and He made demands on our lives that we do not know if we can live up to.

Love my enemy? Pray for those who hurt me? Take up my cross daily? Love Him more than any family member? Be obedient to His Word? These are diffi cult sayings that come directly from God, yet if they are true, we have no choice but to obey.
