Today we will see the long awaited birth of the Messiah as Mary and Joseph take a difficult trip to Bethlehem. We will see how God uses the government to fulfill prophecy – moving Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem because that is where Micah in the Old Testament prophesied that Jesus would be born. What we will see is that the Angels do not announce Jesus’ birth to the religious men in the temple or the busy people in the town. Instead they show up to lowly Shepherds in the fields where it is quiet and peaceful. These Shepherds– outcasts in society, outcasts in the religious Temple – are the men that God wants to unveil His Son to which is a reminder to us the importance of being quiet long enough to hear what God has to say!
